The more I read about fresh-squeezed lemon juice into filtered water the more convinced I am of its benefits. Recently I learned many more surprising things that lemon water and lemon juice can do for us. For instance, did you know:

Ok, I guess I am convinced that I can sacrifice the first sip of coffee in order to reap a lot of these benefits. A whole lemon goes into my smoothies, and now I understand even more the value of adding the lemon peel to our food.

Lemons get squeezed into our salads especially fresh kale salads. They are great squeezed on fish and chicken and berries, too.

Lemon Water Recipes

For the best benefit to drinking lemon water in the morning is to drink it on an empty stomach. This helps to improve digestion, liver function as well as its anti-inflammatory capabilities. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating food in order to give time for the lemon’s enzymes to do their magic.

I like to squeeze 1/2 fresh lemon into 6 to 8 ounces of purified water. Use only fresh lemons, not bottled lemon juice.

Some like to add a little honey or agave nectar to the lemon water for a sweeter taste.

Lemon water can be prepared hot, warm or cold. Try this recipe to supercharge your morning lemon water: boil water and add lemon juice, lime juice, honey, a small piece of fresh ginger and add a little turmeric (if you’re not allergic to it like my husband realized he is). I like to do this the night before so all the flavors are at their best in the morning. Drink room temperature, warmed or cold.

To the recipe above, try adding a cinnamon stick for a little extra flavor or eliminate the ginger and turmeric entirely.

      Hi, Tom. Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is very sensitive to excessive heat such as boiling temps. It’s really best and most beneficial to enjoy your lemon water at room temperature or just warm water. Thank you for writing! Enjoy your lemon water!
